National Identification System (NIDS)
Background:
The Government from as far back as the 1980’s established a National Registration System component as the fore-runner towards the larger and greater need for putting in place a National Identification System (NIDS).
- Prime Minister recommitted priority for the NIDS
- Government’s interest to have system implemented by March 31, 2009
Objectives:
The National Identification System will be used by the government as a means of uniquely identify its citizens, permanent residents, and temporary residents for the purpose of work, taxation, tracking, governments benefits, health care and other governmental related functions.
Current Status:
- Research phase concluded
- Action/proposals already on the “Table” for e.g.
- Individuals from birth will be assigned unique number totaling nine (9) digits.
- Two types of cards (Blue and Yellow will be issued during their lifetime.
- The EoJ System used in capturing finger-prints and photos.
- The project team at work
